Just browsing on a few choice bits in your thesis and thought you might find these of interest.

What a beautiful..... brain you have!
The notion of tannins was resonating in my head (along with tinnitus and those annoying voices) whilst I was composing my thesis (I wore a diaper) but I have been so sleep depraved... deprived that I lacked the capacity to expore this as a side bar, candy bar, or wet bar.
It is a VERY important topic because of its biological significance but also because:
THEY HAVE SO DAMAGED US THAT DECADES AGO PEOPLE WERE CLAIMING SEVERE SENSITIVITIES TO THE FAMILY OF PHENOLS THAT INCLUDE TANNINS AND SALICYLATES that I knew there was some kind of medical epidemic going on.
It has been well known that tannins were antimicrobial.
A main acition of black walnut tincture is the tannins that obliterate single celled parasites by DEHYDRATION.
But if you can't tolerate the tannins then you are in a World Of Hurt (not John Hurt).
Then - and now I know I have to turn this thread into a follow-up Stack - we throw in that premiere cause of kidney stones: DEHYDRATION and we get the Double-Whammy burger of something that might help with Iron being used as a food source, fatty acid synthesis inside the Buggers (so as not to be confused with boogers but both can be up your nose), QUORUM SENSING (din't see THAT one coming), microbial cell disruption, epigenetic switching for turning off biofilm production, manufacturing glue to stick to your cells, probably flagella coding which goes back to the quorum-sensing that leads to swarming, and toxin production. But the last one should be of huge interest to the Germ Theorists and the Terrain Theorists because this undefined trait (it's behind a paywall) of toxin inhibition is not defined in the abstract as to whether they are endotoxins or exotoxins the latter (where DID I put my ladder?) of witch might be caused by BACTERIOPHAGES. That leaves us with serious consideration if tannins interfere with VIRUSES or just whatever they are doing to the DNA inside their host.
Of concern though... was this quote of the madmen in white smocks:
"tannin-loaded nanoparticles/hydrogels show good antibacterial effects"
PUT THE HYDROGEL DOWN AND STEP AWAY FROM THE LAB TABLE OR WE WILL HAVE TO SHOOT!
These freaks just couldn't say:
Eat Walnuts with that bitter nasty brown stuff on them and you'll be OK...
thanks for this stimulating conversation, I got a tiny bit of sleep (massive nightmares not even fit to recount) before arising (can't really call it awakening) to you comment.
See you in the Stack.
At the height of my email list this kind of thing happened every day all day long. I was like a juggler on the Ed Sullivan Show (you know with the sticks and the cups and saucers spinning? no? Yo’re too young then…) trying to keep all of the threads going as the Central Processing Unit of our own Aunty-A.I. Hive Mind.
Truth be told there are not many people who can keep up with the material that we just covered, but I’m obligated to put it out there. Because if we, as the only ones in the breach between good and certain destruction, don’t rise to this level of understanding and ability to evaluate and use countermeasures then there is no future.
The PayWall Punks that I cited at:
https://www.sciencedirect.com/science/article/abs/pii/S2212429220310890
ALWAYS vomit the same tripe at the end of their rant that is some variation of: We need more funding because we need more study because we might be on to something.
You would think that a (shit) consuming public would be fed up with the talent show:
And now we’ll anounce the winners…. after this commercial. But they are not. They eat it up and ask for seconds so the freaks that wrote the article on tannins say:
”Overall, tannins may be promising antibacterial and antivirulence agents for preventing bacterial infections.”
With apologies to Our Lady Of Sardinia, who like me, are in danger of having a stroke from such Fighting Words: THEY NEVER HAVE AN ANSWER. THEY NEVER HAVE A SOLUTION. THEY NEVER HAVE A PRODUCT. Just Hope. That Last Demon in Pandora’s Box. All the while they are developing weapons with hydrogel.
Sew, I will leave you again with the practical alternative that if you DON’T have any sensitivities to Phenols, Tannins or Salyicylates then simply eating a handful of washed walnuts might help (I’m not a doctor - thanks god! - therefore I can’t give medical advice. I’m not a nutritionist - neither are they - so I can’t give eating advice. And I don’t need to. See Walnutto. Eat Walnutto. Good.). There’s more to it. There are tannins in horseradish leaf that I used in my ferments because the roots don’t grow well in the Grain Ghetto. There are tannins in persimmon leaves that I have also used in my ferments. There are tannins in the wood of oak trees which is why brewers used to age their swill in oak barrels and modern fermenters might put a cube of oak wood in their fermenting jars.
See? This stuff is ANCIENT. You don’t need some weapons designer in a modern lab telling you that tannins are the Lost Solution to microbes that got out of the Djinnn bottle because they were fucking with the microbes and they got out of their Mickey Mouse hands and now the Brooms & Buckets are out of control and even their top SORCERERS can’t fix it so THEY HAVE TO GO BACK TO NATURE FOR ANSWERS… with some hydrogel….
Hope this helps. If it doesn’t, then we never stop looking because that’s what makes us Little Red Hens.
Hey! is that a juicey worm?
I love walnuts. Any way that I can include them in a dessert and in they go. Sprinkled on top of brownies, in the brownies, cranberry/walnut shortbread, cranberry/walnut oatmeal cookies, into the oatmeal porridge, etc. You get the idea.....and are probably salivating by now.
It's long been known that the polyphenols in green tea are good for health in a number of ways. One of those ways is actually destroying cancer stem cells. They have been on my everyday list for a while.
